In my first entry, I talked a little bit about my experience in enlisting in the Marine Corps but didn’t really explain why I did or what I want to do. I enlisted because I see serving your country as something very honorable, and especially now in a time when many people are anti-military and very hostile towards them. I chose the Marines specifically because I saw myself more with that branch than any other one and also because my dad was a Marine, so he was able to share his experiences with me and it intrigued me. ]
After I had finished my ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) at my recruiting office, I had seen my test scores and after doing research at home, I saw that I could’ve gotten nearly any job in any branch (besides the Navy’s SEALs, which is weird since I qualified for the Army’s Special Forces and they’re more complex and technical than SEALs). I could’ve even went into the Air Force which is seen as impressive because of their higher academic standards. I still chose the Marines of course, and out of any job, I picked infantry. Many would see this as a death sentence but personally, I’d rather do something physical than work behind a desk. The risk is worth it if I defended my country from anybody wanting to hurt us. Though I chose this life, I don’t consider myself above anyone because simply, everyone has a job to fulfill in society to make their country or community better.
